Flange gaskets

Flange gaskets are flat gaskets that have a very specific application - sealing flanges. Their use is thus particularly widespread in pipeline or apparatus construction. Flange gaskets are the sealing element between two flanges or between the mounting surface and the flange. Depending on what is conveyed through the pipeline, these gaskets must be highly resistant to thermal or chemical stress. For this reason, at Rehm Dichtungen Ehlers GmbH you have a choice of various materials with different specifications.

Properties of flange gaskets

Flange gaskets are static gaskets that ensure absolute tightness at the joints of pipelines. Flange gaskets are particularly indispensable where liquids, gases or pasty media run through pipes or lines. Leakages must be prevented, especially in the case of media that are harmful to health or critical to the environment. Just like flat gaskets, flange gaskets can be used flexibly and are low-wear.

Application areas of the seals

This type of flat gasket is used in particular in pipeline construction in a wide variety of industries - be it in the oil industry, gas or waterworks or also in the context of food processing. Pipes or lines are firmly connected to each other via flanges at the end of a pipe. The flange gaskets sit exactly between these flanges, or between the flange and the mounting surface, and seal the joint.

Flange gaskets made to measure

With the help of our various manufacturing processes, we at Rehm Dichtungen can produce customised flange gaskets for you. Thanks to the different manufacturing processes, we can supply flange gaskets in a wide range of shapes and sizes. Before manufacturing your individual gasket, it is important to determine the suitable gasket material with regard to resistance to the medium to be sealed and the planned application, because both the contour and the resistance of the gasket are important factors for the tightness of the flange gasket.

Various materials

Depending on the area of application, the seals must be able to withstand various media as well as temperature and pressure ranges to ensure long-term and optimal sealing.

If the seals are used in environments with high operating temperatures or in the food industry, then silicones, for example, are a good choice. For high thermal and chemical loads, rubbers such as EPDM, NR or NBR are suitable sealing materials. If good resistance to moisture and high deformability are important, sponge rubber is recommended. Depending on the material compound, sponge rubber is also oil-resistant, among other things.

The list of sealing materials that can be used for flange gaskets is long. Find out here about the gasket materials available from us, Rehm Dichtungen Ehlers GmbH, or let us advise you. Together we will find the most suitable material for your purposes.

FAQ

What are flange gaskets?
Flange gaskets are flat gaskets used to seal flanges and are used in particular in pipeline or appliance construction. Depending on the gasket material, they can be used flexibly, are low-wear and can withstand high loads.
Can flange gaskets also be equipped with self-adhesive?
The flange gaskets we manufacture can be excellently bonded with a self-adhesive film. After finishing, the one-sided self-adhesive gasket material is processed into your custom self-adhesive flange gaskets using our various manufacturing processes - waterjet cutting, plotting and die cutting.
Which gasket materials can flange gaskets be made of?
At Rehm Dichtungen Ehlers GmbH, we can manufacture flange gaskets from a wide range of materials. The choice of material depends on the desired application. Flange gaskets can be made of elastomers, such as EPDM or NBR, fibrous materials, such as Klingersil, as well as plastics, such as silicone or PTFE.
Where can flange gaskets be used?
Flange gaskets are mainly used in pipeline construction, such as in the oil industry, waterworks or food processing. Use of this type of flat gasket is particularly necessary in applications where liquids, gases or pasty media run through pipes or lines.
Are flange gaskets heat resistant?
Whether a flange gasket is heat-resistant depends on the respective gasket material. Heat-resistant gaskets are characterised above all by unchanged properties at high temperatures. At the same time, they usually have a high resistance to acids, alkalis, oils and greases.
What other sealing solutions are available from Rehm Dichtungen
As a gasket manufacturer, we specialise in the production of flange gaskets, flat gaskets and related products. For this reason, it is possible for us to offer you, in addition to the above-mentioned sealing solutions, individual cut-to-size and yard goods as well as rubber sleeves in a wide variety of contours and dimensions. In addition, you can also obtain unprocessed rolls and sheets from us.
