Below you will find an overview of our elastomer seals.
Elastomers belong to the group of plastics. They are generally characterised by the fact that they are simultaneously dimensionally stable and yet have good elastic deformability. Elastomers are used in particular for static seals, such as rubber rings, rubber blanks or the production of rubber sleeves. Due to their properties, they are equally well suited for flatand flange seals - depending on the specific feature required for the intended use.
EPDM is the abbreviation for ethylene-propylene-diene (monomer) rubber and belongs to the M group of rubbers. In the classification of rubbers, seals made from this sealing material are therefore assigned to the non-polar saturated rubbers.
NBR is the abbreviation for nitrile butadiene rubber. In German, it is also known as arcylnitrile butadiene rubber or nitrile rubber. The material is a copolymer consisting of the two components arcylnitrile and 1,3-butadiene.
NR is the abbreviation for natural rubber.
The raw material is obtained from the milky sap of rubber plants and is primarily important as a base material for other rubber compounds in the entire elastomer industry.
CR stands for chloroprene rubber, a synthetic rubber and belongs to the elastomers of the R group, which are characterised by an unsaturated hydrocarbon chain. Probably the best-known trade name is Neoprene® In addition, the material is also traded as Baypren®.
FKM is the abbreviation for fluororubber compound, formerly also known as FPM. To differentiate between the terms, FKM is the international ISO designation for all fluoroelastomers, while FPM is the German DIN designation.
Rubber cork is a mixture of cork granules and rubber that is bound with PU. It is manufactured in a multi-stage process in which the natural cork is combined with the rubber granules under the influence of a PU binder.
Due to its excellent mechanical and thermal properties as well as its biocompatibility, the material is suitable as a sealing material for various applications. For this reason, we manufacture your individual flat gaskets from silicone.

Elastomer seals from Rehm Dichtungen
At Rehm Dichtungen Ehlers GmbH, you can choose from various elastomer materials in stock. Do you need seals that are particularly resistant to ozone and UV radiation? Then EPDM,FKM or CR are ideally suited. NBR is highly resistant to lubricating oils and grease. NR, natural rubber, in turn has good mechanical and dynamic properties and also offers an interesting price-performance ratio.
Please contact us so that we can work with you to find the right gasket material for your intended application. We will be happy to cut your individual seals for you in almost any shape and contour. You also have the option of purchasing unprocessed roll or sheet material from us.
FAQ on elastomer seals
1. what are elastomer seals?
Elastomer gaskets are manufactured
flat and
flange gaskets made of a wide variety of elastomers. They themselves can be assigned to the group of plastics and impress with the combination of dimensional stability and simultaneous elastic deformability.
2. which sealing materials belong to elastomer seals?
The best-known materials belonging to the group of elastomers are
EPDM seals,
NBR seals,
NR seals,
CR seals,
FKM seals and
seals made of silicone. All sealing materials differ in terms of their mechanical, dynamic and chemical properties.
3. how are the elastomers processed?
4. can elastomer seals also be equipped with self-adhesive?
To simplify assembly, most elastomer seals can be produced self-adhesive on one side. In principle, bonding the elastomer to the self-adhesive film does not impair the properties of the base material.
5. where are the data sheets and approvals of the sealing materials?
The data sheets and approvals for all elastomer materials in stock can be found in our
download area under the Service tab. At the same time, you will find an overview of further certifications, such as REACH and RoHS certifications.
