Sealing materials for fire protection - Fire protection seals
For us, Rehm Dichtungen Ehlers GmbH, fire protection materials are special sealing materials that are characterised by the fulfilment of the fire classification according to DIN EN 45545 Part 2: 2016-02, for the requirement sets R22/R23, design class HL2, design class HL3 or according to the fire behaviour according to UL94-HBF1, HF-1 or UL94-V0. Both of these standards have become established for the classification of fire behaviour, flame retardancy and fire safety in the field of sealing materials.
Using our various manufacturing processes - waterjet cutting, plotting, punching - we produce your individual flat gaskets for fire protection.
Available fire protection materials
We have a range of sealing materials that meet the fire behavior requirements of UL94 for determining the flammability class and the fire protection requirements of DIN EN 45545-2 for materials used in the construction of rail vehicles. The latter standard distinguishes between different hazard levels, which require different test procedures and conditions as well as different fire behavior requirements. DIN EN 45545-2 is based on the fundamental objectives with regard to fire safety. It also specifies requirements with regard to the reconditioning and maintenance of components, taking functional necessity into account.
You can choose from our various material groups for the production of your fire protection gaskets, depending on the respective application. We will be happy to advise you on the choice of the right material, specifying the intended use. To facilitate the installation of your manufactured fire protection seals, we can equip your fire protection seals with a self-adhesive film.
EPDM E2441 from the manufacturer Semperit is a classic fire-resistant sealing material in the field of elastomers. The E2441 has the fire protection classification according to DIN EN 45545 Part 2: 2016-02 for material with a thickness of 2 to 10 millimeters. EPDM E2441 also fulfills the automotive fire classification according to EU Directive 95/28/EC and US FMVSS 302.
In the area of foamed materials, O.C. Form 150 UL and cellular rubber CR/NBR are considered sealing materials for fire protection. O.C. Form 150 UL is a permanently elastic, fine-pored impregnated flexible polyurethane foam, which is classified in accordance with UL94-V0 and DIN EN 45545-2 (2016-02). Flexible gaskets made of O.C. Form 150 UL not only meet the high fire protection requirements, but can also be used for thermal and sound insulation as well as vibration damping.
Cellular rubber made of CR/NBR is fire classified according to UL94-HF1 from 2 to 8 mm thickness and UL94-V0 from 8 to 40 mm thickness, so your individual fire protection seals can be manufactured from this material. Likewise, our cellular rubber CR/NBR is in possession of the Yellow Card.
The properties and advantages of fire protection seals
Fire protection gaskets are characterised above all by the fact that they meet the requirements of the fire classification according to DIN EN 45545 Part 2: 2016-02, for the requirement sets R22/R23, design class HL2, design class HL3 or according to the fire behaviour according to UL94-HBF1, HF-1 or UL94-V0 and thus ensure a high level of fire safety. Furthermore, fire protection seals have a low thermal conductivity.
