Sealing materials for fire protection - Fire protection seals

For us, Rehm Dichtungen Ehlers GmbH, fire protection materials are special sealing materials that are characterised by the fulfilment of the fire classification according to DIN EN 45545 Part 2: 2016-02, for the requirement sets R22/R23, design class HL2, design class HL3 or according to the fire behaviour according to UL94-HBF1, HF-1 or UL94-V0. Both of these standards have become established for the classification of fire behaviour, flame retardancy and fire safety in the field of sealing materials.

Using our various manufacturing processes - waterjet cutting, plotting, punching - we produce your individual flat gaskets for fire protection.

Available fire protection materials at Rehm Dichtungen Ehlers GmbH

We have a range of sealing materials that comply with the UL94 fire behaviour standard for determining the flammability class as well as the fire protection requirements of DIN EN 45545-2 for materials used in the construction of rail vehicles. In the latter standard, a distinction is made between different hazard levels, which require different procedures and conditions for testing as well as the demands on fire behaviour. DIN EN 45545-2 is oriented towards the basic objectives with regard to fire safety. Furthermore, it specifies requirements with regard to the refurbishment and maintenance of components, taking into account functional necessity.

For the production of your fire protection seals, you can choose from our various material groups, depending on the respective application. We will be happy to advise you on the choice of the right material, specifying the intended use. To facilitate the installation of your manufactured fire protection seals, we can equip your fire protection seals with a self-adhesive film.

The EPDM E2441 from the manufacturer Semperit is considered to be a classic fire-resistant sealing material in the field of elastomers. The E2441 has the fire protection classification according to DIN EN 45545 Part 2: 2016-02 for material with a thickness of 2 to 10 millimeters. In addition, the EPDM E2441 meets the automotive fire classification according to EU Directive 95/28/EC and US FMVSS 302.

In the field of foamed materials, O.C. Form 150 UL and cellular rubber CR/NBR are considered sealing materials for fire protection. O.C. Form 150 UL is a permanently elastic, fine-pored impregnated polyurethane soft foam, which is classified according to UL94-V0 as well as DIN EN 45545-2 (2016-02). Soft-elastic seals made of the material O.C. Form 150 UL not only meet the high fire protection requirements, but can also be used for heat and sound insulation as well as vibration damping.

Cellular rubber made of CR/NBR is fire classified according to UL94-HF1 from 2 to 8 mm thickness and UL94-V0 from 8 to 40 mm thickness, so your individual fire protection seals can be manufactured from this material. Likewise, our cellular rubber CR/NBR is in possession of the Yellow Card.

The properties and advantages of fire protection seals

Fire protection gaskets are characterised above all by the fact that they meet the requirements of the fire classification according to DIN EN 45545 Part 2: 2016-02, for the requirement sets R22/R23, design class HL2, design class HL3 or according to the fire behaviour according to UL94-HBF1, HF-1 or UL94-V0 and thus ensure a high level of fire safety. Furthermore, fire protection seals have a low thermal conductivity.

We will be happy to tell you which sealing material is suitable for your fire protection seals. Please contact our customer service, who will be happy to provide you with comprehensive advice.

FAQ

What are fire protection seals?
Fire protection gaskets are made of gasket materials that meet the fire classification according to DIN EN 45545 Part 2: 2016-02, for the requirement sets R22/R23, design class HL2, design class HL3 or are classified according to the fire behaviour according to UL94-HBF1, HF-1 or UL94-V0.
Can fire protection seals also be equipped with self-adhesive?
Fire protection seals can be equipped with basic self-adhesive. For this purpose, the unprocessed sealing material is first bonded with a self-adhesive film in order to subsequently produce your self-adhesive fire protection seals.
In which forms can fire protection seals be obtained from Rehm Dichtungen?
Just as with all our sealing materials, we manufacture the right fire protection seals for you using our various manufacturing processes - water jet cutting, plotting, punching. In addition to the manufactured fire protection seals, we can also cut the sealing material to the desired length and width. Finally, you can also purchase the sealing material from us as unprocessed yard goods for your own production. All fire-resistant sealing materials available from us can also be equipped with self-adhesive on one side.
