Foamed materials

In the following you will find an overview of our foamed materials

In addition to elastomer gaskets, plastic gaskets and fibre g askets, we at Rehm Dichtungen Ehlers GmbH can also produce your desired individual flat gaskets for you from foamed materials.

Foamed materials from Rehm Dichtungen

We offer a variety of foamed gasket materials with different thicknesses, Shore hardnesses, resistances and compositions.

Sponge rubber is a well-sealing mixed-cell, elastic foam whose surface is smooth. The foam can basically be made of different rubbers. We have sponge rubber based on the material EPDM available from stock.

Cellular rubber is a closed-cell, foamed elastomer which is available to us in CR/NBR and EPDM variants. The bonded cell structure inside results in the material being waterproof and airtight. The sealing material is usually used for insulating, sealing, soft bearings as well as insulating. Silicone foam - a closed-cell material - also has excellent sealing and insulating properties.

Please feel free to contact us. Together we will find the right material for your next project. Of course, you can also purchase larger material blanks or entire material rolls from us to process them yourself afterwards.

FAQ on foamed materials

1. what are foamed gasket materials?
Foamed gasket materials are closed or mixed cell materials. These elastic foams can be based on different rubbers, such as NBR, EPDM, NRor CR. They are used, among other things, in the form of seals or blanks as insulating material or shock absorption.
2. which sealing materials belong to the foamed sealing materials?
The group of foamed materials can be roughly divided into three materials: sponge rubber, cellular rubber and silicone foam. Sponge rubber and cellular rubber, in turn, can be further differentiated with regard to their base. The base of the two materials has an influence on the mechanical, dynamic and chemical properties of the flat or flange gasket. At Rehm Dichtungen Ehlers GmbH, we supply silicone foam, EPDM sponge rubber, CR/NBR-based cellular rubber and EPDM-based cellular rubber.
3. how are foamed materials processed?
Various manufacturing processescan be used to produce individual flat and flange gaskets. The production of gaskets or blanks from foamed materials is carried out with the help of water jet cutting, plotting and punching.
4. can gaskets made of foamed materials also be equipped with self-adhesive?
In principle, the various materials of this upper group of sealing materials can be equipped with a self-adhesive film to aid assembly. While cellular rubber and silicone foam are ideal for bonding with a self-adhesive film, sponge rubber can only be bonded with special adhesives due to its outer skin. Nevertheless, you can also obtain self-adhesive sponge rubber seals from us.
5. how do closed-cell and mixed-cell materials differ?
Closed-cell foamed gasket materials include silicone foam as well as cellular rubber. In closed-cell materials, the cell walls are closed, which means that the cells of the material are not connected to each other and these materials are considered waterproof and airtight. Open-cell materials, on the other hand, are characterized by open cell walls, which allows sound and water in particular to be absorbed very well. A combination of closed-cell and open-cell is called mixed-cell. Our sponge rubber, thanks to the outer skin that protects the material from moisture, is considered mixed-cell.
6. where are the data sheets and approvals of the sealing materials?
The data sheets and approvals for all standard foamed materials in stock can be found in our download area under the Service tab.
