Silicone foam seals

Silicone foam is a closed-cell material. Closed-cell means that there are no connections between the individual cells and thus the penetration of moisture into the cell structure of the respective flat gasket is prevented. Among other things, the material is predestined for use as sound and heat insulation.

Available silicone foam materials at Rehm Dichtungen Ehlers GmbH

We have light silicone foam in sheet and roll form. Thanks to our diverse manufacturing processes, you can purchase the material both as yard goods and as individual products, such as gaskets or flat gaskets, blanks or strips.

The properties of silicone foam as a sealing material

Silicone foam is an excellent sealing material because it is resistant even in high temperature ranges and has a long service life. This is also reflected in the good compression set. The foamed material is highly elastic and has high restoring forces. In addition, flat gaskets made of silicone foam have excellent compression properties. In terms of water absorption of >1%, silicone foam offers excellent sealing properties against the ingress of contaminants such as water and dust.

The advantages and material properties of silicone foam at a glance

Silicone foam gaskets are characterised by a number of positive properties, which makes it an excellent sealing and insulating material. In addition to its very good thermal resistance in temperature ranges from -80° to +230° C, the material also has excellent physiological properties in terms of biocompatibility and food safety. The closed-cell sealing material is mostly bacteriologically indifferent, allergy-neutral and fungicidal.

Silicone foam is still:

  • Non corrosive
  • non-adhesive
  • not electrically conductive (excellent insulator)
  • Highly elastic with high restoring forces
  • Easily deformable
  • ozone and ageing resistant
  • weather-, moisture- and UV-resistant
  • vibration-insulating and heat-insulating

The sealing material is also characterised by extremely low water absorption.

Areas of application for silicone foam gaskets

The foamed material is used as seals or flat gaskets, but also as blanks or insulation in various sectors and industries. The material is also interesting for medical technology. Furthermore, gaskets made of this material are preferably used in vehicle construction, shipbuilding, aviation and air conditioning technology as well as pneumatics.
Due to the very good compression set and the wide temperature range, seals made of silicone foam can be integrated in many applications for sealing, insulation and vibration damping.
The extremely low water absorption means that the manufactured seals can be used in many outdoor applications. Examples include gaskets and flat gaskets for HVAC systems, lighting systems and electrical housings.

We will be happy to answer whether the sealing material is also suitable for your needs. Please contact our customer service and let us advise you comprehensively.

FAQ

What are silicone foam gaskets?
Silicone foam gaskets are gaskets made of silicone foam, a closed-cell material, and can be classified as foamed gasket materials. This closed-cell material, unlike open foamed gasket materials, prevents moisture from penetrating the cell structure.
Can silicone foam also be equipped with self-adhesive?
Silicone foam mats or sheets can be finished very well with a self-adhesive film. After finishing, the one-sided self-adhesive material is processed into your self-adhesive silicone foam seals using our various manufacturing processes - waterjet cutting, plotting and die-cutting.
What are the properties of silicone foam?
Silicone foam gaskets are characterised by a variety of positive properties. For this reason, the material is excellently suited as a sealing and insulating material due to its easy deformability. In addition to its very good thermal resistance in temperature ranges from -80°C to +230°C, the sealing material also has very good physiological properties with regard to biocompatibility and food safety. The material is also mostly bacteriologically indifferent, allergy-neutral and fungicidal.
What resistances do silicone foam gaskets offer?
Silicone foam has good resistance to ageing, ozone, oxidation, UV light and various types of weathering. In addition, it is not electrically conductive, which makes the material ideal as an insulator.
Is silicone foam available from Rehm Dichtungen?
We, Rehm Dichtungen Ehlers GmbH, stock silicone foam in thicknesses from 2 mm to 30 mm as standard.
In which forms can silicone foam be obtained from Rehm Dichtungen?
As with all our gasket materials, we use silicone foam to create the right gasket for you using our various manufacturing processes - water jet cutting, plotting, die cutting. In addition to the manufactured silicone foam gaskets, we can also cut the sheet material to the desired length and width. Finally, you can also purchase the sealing material from us in the form of unprocessed rolls and sheets for your own production as trading goods. All products available from us for the material can also be equipped with self-adhesive on one side.
