Polyurethane seals
Polyurethane, also abbreviated as PU or PUR, belongs to the group of urethane plastics and can be found as both foam and rigid plastic. PU is used in the industrial environment as a roller or sealing material. The material is particularly well suited in applications where high wear resistance is required.
Available polyurethane materials at Rehm Dichtungen Ehlers GmbH
We supply polyurethane in various qualities, depending on the intended use of the sealing material. We have these variants in the form of sheets and rolls, which we cut to size for you.

The properties of polyurethane as a sealing material
Polyurethane is based on the components dialcohols and diisocyanates. PU is formed by a polyaddition reaction of the two substances. Depending on the degree of cross-linking, polyurethane produces thermosets, thermoplastics or elastomers. Accordingly, the material has different mechanical properties - from hard to soft and elastic.
The advantages and material properties of polyurethane at a glance
Polyurethane is an excellent sealing material for many uses and application environments.
The material is among others:
- low-wear
- Weather and ozone resistant
- Resistant to oils, greases and weak acids
- tear-resistant
- Very flexible
Furthermore, PU does not age in free air and has a high mechanical strength.
Here you can find a resistance list of polyurethane.
Areas of application for polyurethane seals
The material is used in the automotive and mechanical engineering industries. Other areas of application for polyurethane are shipbuilding, the materials handling industry and pneumatics. PU can be used, for example, as buffers, seals or profiles.
